    Thanks for your very interesting comments. I would be really interested in the lower ratio diffs from this specialist company as I think I backing a loser trying to find a 3.14 Sierra diff (but you have to try!) - though I suspect they will be a tad expensive.
    It's also nice to hear Dave Kitson has got the all BMW Cabrio on to the exhibition stand. Was it the complete car?
    Any details?
    Why hasn't Dave let us all know what's going on?

      Re: What are cabrio owners doing?

      Daves car was complete rolling and all body panels, no paint, trim etc. Dave has a web site www.javelinsportscars.co.uk Dave is using the earlier engine the one that Peter Morris has used. I have no news on the diffs yet ,but the price that was suggested to me was around ?475. not bad I thought, but I will let you know all details as soon as I have confirmation. Regards Danny.

        I got mine from Quantum Cars who were most helpful as most of their cars are still Sierra based.I know they had a 3.14 in the summer; you may be lucky as they break all sorts of Sierras and the 3.14 is too low for their cars. I did find out that most Sierra diesels had the 3.14 but you can never really tell until you see it stamped on the crown wheel or count teeth!! I would suggest you put in your final choice of diff as it a bit of a pig to change. I still have a 3.62 if anyones interested.....
        Mine cost ?140 straight out of Sierra ; they wanted ?160 for the 3.14 but alot more to be reconditioned, but they're pretty bullet proof, Best wishes Chris

          Many thanks for this info.
          I will certainly get in touch with Quantum tomorrow.

            Re: What are cabrio owners doing?

            I see you've been talking about me danny......thats OK.
            On the subject of diff ratio's, now that I have driven 4000+ miles, I would choose 3.77:1 but I can't buy one. The older M20 engine likes to rev but does not have the low down torque that the M50 engine has, hense the need for something between the standard sierra 3.92:1 and the XR4 3.62:1 that I have now. Each of these options have there pro's and cons so it's a matter of what one prefers. At the momement I pull 2900 RPM (at) 70 MPH in 5th gear and it does'nt like hills, have to change down to 4th. However 2nd gear is really good and I can almost reach 60 MPH in this gear.
            Choosing a 3.14:1 diff may be OK with the latter engine but it might be overkill for towing a caravan!
            If anybody is not sure about the diff that they have then this info may help: -
            The metal tab should have a letter stamped on it.
            M=3.14, V=3.38, D=3.92, A=3.36, U=3.62, b=3.77

              Many thanks for the information Peter, I keep forgetting The difference between yours and my engine, and I take your point about towing.
