My ignition switch disintegrated and the electrical components fell apart (with age I guess). So I wired up another ignition switch and a start engine flick switch. However, I still have the old ignition switch & still need to use the old key in it to cancel the steering lock. This is a bit of pita, so as I am planning to replace the dash anyway - I'm looking at as many benefits as I can in doing the major job. I found this:
and I wonder whether it would fit the same as the current, fitted old marina one..?
It's an obscure item but I wonder whether any of you have recently changed one and might recollect if this looks similar?
The way the old switch is fitted - it can only be removed with the dash off to get at the mounting bolts, so I won't really know until the dash is completely out. I have discovered that although the fitted dash is vinyl covered mdf board, it is mounted on a fiberglass frame behind it. Until I 'go all the way' and remove everything, I won't be able to even design the new wooden dash...
18mths ago when I first began to restore the car, I found that the wiper stalk switch was really in the way of the ignition switch and every time I'd try to turn the key, I would be bumping the wipers switch on. Has anyone encountered that and if so - how did you workaround it?
