I have read the previous threads on fuel tanks and it seems that the general consensus is that escort van tanks were used, is there any way I can verify that being so in my car? This being the case any ideas where I could find a sender unit to fit? The current non-standard one which has developed a leak around the return pipe was glued in position!

Re: fuel tank
Hi Bob
Escort van tanks are approx 26 x 10 x 6 inches with a bolt through mounting flange round upper perimeter It has the sender unit located in the top of the tank and a fuel overflow/breather pipe again on top of tank.I used a universal sender of the type available from Europa spares connected to a Lucas fuel gauge from a Dolomite[all gauges were of dolly/spitfire origin] If using this type of sender you will need to drill 6 holes to secure sender into position but it does fit the hole already in the tank. This sender does NoT have fuel take off provision as I beleive the original fitment escort had so you need to fit pipe to tank or possibly into sender unit for fuel supply.Obviously I'm not familiar with your present set-up and you may already have such in place.
