  • Forum "upgrade"

Sorry but not a happy bunny. Upgrade has lost all my formatting and replaced with awful, dark skin. Photos not showing in posts so have to click each attachment to open - royal pain in the backside!

No warning it was being done. No discussion with members beforehand.

PS would have posted in website subforum but giving me a 404

The layout and colour scheme is dark and difficult to navigate. Hope you can restore the usability of the site quickly.

Hi everyone, and thanks for your comments on the website upgrade. This work was actually a complete site rebuild and had been deferred for many months until security holes and software incompatibilities made the move unavoidable. Many hours of background preparatory work were put in to ensure the new site would be stable, the migration swift, smooth and painless, and any differences in appearance were as minor as possible. But something went wrong in the migration and it has proven a real headache for our web hosting specialists to fix. The site was made available to everyone on Wednesday because the faults weren't immediately apparent but they have blocked the membership and site software systems from tallking to the forum. The website is currently not operating fully or correctly, some people can't log in at all and some pages are inaccessible. I appreciate that everyone is used to a site that usually operates flawlessly 24/7/365 and that this downtime is unwelcome but please accept that the disruption wasn't intentional and the hosting firm are working full time on getting us back to normal as soon as they're able to. The site may need to be taken offline more than once before it's all fixed. Please bear with us in the meantime. Thank you.

            I feel your pain....
Keep up the good work. You will get there in the end. We get so used to things working as is and forget all the hard work and anguish that goes into giving us all a great user experience.
The world will not end if the forum is under par for a few weeks (or months or years come to that)

For me the most frustrating bit is that the locally hosted pcitures aren't working. I hope this has been noted.
But - as jon-cox said - it's not the end of the world.
But it does show how much we have all become used to reliable, and I hate this phrase, "social media".

I can only apologise for all the problems this has caused. Unfortunately it needed to be done. The original website appeared to be working perfectly but could have suffered major trouble due to security vulnerabilities. It was like ducklings swimming happily on a pond with a pike underneath waiting to strike. Hopefully everything will be sorted out soon.
In the meantime I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a happy New year.

The bug that was stopping pictures in posts displaying has been diagnosed and fixed, so these should be displaying properly now (if not, please let me know). And the support specialists understand the cause of the '404 page not found' message that stops you when trying to get into the Members Area and elsewhere and are working to resolve this ASAP. More to follow. As before, thank you for your patience. Mark

The bug blocking entry to the Members Area has been fixed; if anyone still can't see the area or go into a post when they're shown as logged in (at top right of the screen) please let me know. Mark

Now that I am used to the new colour scheme, I like it a lot. Thank you for the hard work.
