Exhausted

A couple of years back I had a new twin pipe stainless exhaust system fitted by John Ashley exhausts in Walsall. Whilst the exhaust looks good, my opinion, it has always hung a little low, the recent addition of sleeping policemen locally confirming that. So Tuesday sees us heading back, John Ashley supports the new owners at Exhaust Place, to get some remedials carried out. The chap that build the system originally is still there and will be helping with the work. The plan to raise the exhaust begins and we will cut all down pipes remove all brackets suspend the exhaust to the best height possible. We then will sleeve and weld collars, fit new 'mobile' brackets and hangers, that to accommodate the expansion of the stainless system. Will try and post some before and afters.

The work has been done and the exhaust now sits about a half inch odd the floor pan. Really pleased with the result, as ground clearance had improved so much. Cut the manifold pipes, flared them rewelded which lifted the front. Cut the exhaust pipes fitted two new formed sections and tacked them. New central bracket off the gear box exhaust bracket, new clamps, and all supported tack ed and then welded. Really pleased, can happily recommend 'The Exhaust Place', Walsall.

Nice - my exhaust makes friends with sleeping policemen often, I drive over at an angle or very slowly. I did want a side exhaust when I initially tried to get one made I got screwed over by the company that I asked to do it. So I went the DIY route under the car. I've since built two exhausts, I got a tig welder before making the second one. I'm not very good, but a grinder can fix anything The first one had a pair of MagnaFlow straight-through glass packs which was nice but a bit loud (did pass SVA one two out of the 4 holes blocked). Most recently I built one with a pair of X-Force Varex back boxes - they have flaps and a motor so you can adjust the volume from 'ok' to 'my ears are bleeding'.
