  • skinny seats for a Sportster? suggestions please

    Hi,

My Sportster seats are too bulky and lack headrests. My main problem is that there isn't a lot of leg room and with only about 20mm between the back of the seats and the box section in the floor behind, they won't go far back enough if I remounted them (not adjustable). So I'm thinking a thinner backrest would be a good idea. Are any of you drivers with long legs having trouble and found a solution?

Mx5 seats are one option. That's what I used in my car now owned by Steve Pritchard. I am sure he will have something to say :-)

I used a fibreglass high back race seat from kitspares aka GBS , fitted directly to floor (with 1" wooden spacer rail) and mounted as far back as possible. Mine is the standard 40cm width version, but they also make a 42cm version which will fit the Sportster cockpit....just. I also used a padded upholstery set from Kitcars Direct aka MK Sportscars. None of this is particularly cheap, and there is a 3 week delay for the seat as they are made to order, but its a good solution.

For such a large car, the Sportster cockpit is surprisingly short.
      Cheers Chris.

I have Cobra Roadster 7's - head rests not too big. Wouldn't recommend them though the frames are made of cheese. I've had to weld the frame in them and re-enforce them. I'd consider MX5 seats, I had wanted to measure up S2000 seats but never had the opportunity.

mx5 seats will fit but they are a little too wide as they will not push all the way back, catching the central tunnel
