    I read (on here I think) that the best way to remove early Triumph o/d gearbox (2500) was with the engine and by lifting the body high enough to be able to drop the drivetrain onto a dolly and slide it out in one piece. I’m struggling to think how to get the body high enough without spending a fortune on equipment - an engine hoist has been suggested but won’t the base sit where the dolly needs to be? Suggestions very welcome!

    It's a long time ago by now...when I built mine.... I packed up engine and box on wooden blocks, then lifted the bare chassis over, and shuffled it under gearbox. (a bit of wooden block moving...) Then lifted chassis at front on blocks so I could get a jack under it, and then lifted tailshaft so it went over and sat on cross bar, and then used it as solid point to lift engine with jack. I also had no side panels at that point. Very awkward, but it worked. If it's an assembled car as of today, an engine hoist is a lot less hassle overall. If it is a saloon box, then will be difficult as it overlaps the centre crossbar on the all Triumph models, don't know about hybrid/Marina base. That's from my all Triumph base, so could be wrong. Remember most of weight is engine, so you CAN lift the gearbox end.


    I reckon it's always easier and probably quicker to remove engine and box as a unit, even for many clone cars. For Marlin, you can completely disassemble the nose and side panels too (on some models) so you don't even have to lift it all that much....
