  • Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs Drive It Day April 21 2024

Met up with the North Devon Sports & Classic Car Club (NDSCCC) in Barnstaple for The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, ‘Drive It Day’. Started with a fry-up breakfast at Gemma’s of Waytown and then took a scenic drive over Exmoor to visit a stately home at Williton in Somerset, where we had a very interesting guided tour given by the owner, whose family had been in residence for over 700 years.

I’d like to say the accompanying map shows our correct route, but it is more a graph depicting my incompetence at map-reading. However the scenery was spectacular and the day was warm and sunny just right for a top-down drive in the Hunter. Finishing off with a clotted-cream tea, our perfect day was complete.

That looks like a good day out. We organised a run for our local club, Ashbourne Classic Enthusiasts, to Gladstone Pottery Museum in Longton ( Stoke on Trent). There were 38 cars on the run in beautiful hood down weather with wonderful views across the Staffordshire Moorlands on the return journey.
In the evening 57 club members joined us for a carvery at a local pub.
We could breathe a sigh of relief after the whole day was successful.
