Marlin Berlinetta gearbox

Hi Folks, My Berlinetta is based on a 1976 Cortina with a four speed box. Can you drop a 5 speed box in easily or does that need chassis mount modifications? Just thinking a 5 Speed may give better MPG. Cheers, Alan.

5 speed box is a well known upgrade, 5th being an overdrive ratio revs for cruiseing and therefore fuel consumption should be lower.
The chassis gearbox x member, gearbox mount, will require modification.
If you search the berlinetta articles you should find details of this modification.
