    I am thinking of building up a new exhaust on my Roadster, using flexi pipe, clamps and a proprietary silencer. I did something similar on another kit car many years ago, and that looks fine and has lasted well.

    A friend says that he has had excellent results on his motorcycles using good quality silicone sealant, instead of the usual exhaust paste. Apparently as well as sealing and resisting the heat, it allows for easier dismantling.

    Does anyone have any experience of this?

    Yes I always use Silicone sealant when making exhaust pipe joints. I use the orange one which is more heat resistant. Don’t use the household stuff. Also for ease of disassembly use the T-bolt type of clamp, link below. Avoid the U-bolt type as they dent the pipe and make it very difficult to slide apart.

      Thanks for that - I agree that the T-type fixing is superior. I'll try the orange sealant; it is sold as 'marine sealant' on E bay I see.
