  • Cabrio Wire Wheels

    Hi All,
I see from a previous post that a member was enquiring about fitting wire wheels to a Cabrio. Did anything ever come of that enquiry?
I am now seeking the same information.
There are pictures of Cabrio's in Dave's gallery of several Cabrio's sporting wire wheels so somebody must know something.
Please could an owner of such a wire wheel adorned vehicle please share some information.
Firstly where they originated from ie MWS or similar and are they directly bolted on in place of an original 4 stud wheel or are they fitted via bolt-on splined centre-lock adaptors.
I would like to see a picture or pictures of wire wheel adorned Cabrio's from the front to see if centre-lock wheels protrude past the edge of the wings and by how much.
A rim offset/inset size would be very handy from the inner rim edge to the face of the of a wire wheel mounting hub. I have been in contact with MWS and they may be able to supply me with a set of wheels but they need this basic information.

I would go to MWS but its a bit of a trek from Derby to Slough.

I have 7" x 15" Cosworth alloys fitted atm which do cause the 205x65 x 15" tyres to protrude past the edge of the wings, but as I am in the process of searching for new tyres I'm fancying a change of wheels in the process, hence this enquiry.

Thanking you in anticipation for any help, info or advice,

    Regards to you all.
    Mick.

See FAQs at the top for recommended wheel/tyre sizes.

Personally, I would not fit wires to any car, given the choice. Unless there has been a big improvement in their manufacture over the years, they need to be tubed, and as such, they could suffer rapid deflation in the event of a puncture. Tubeless tyres usually deflate much more slowly. Also wires are a pain to keep clean, especially with disc brakes.
