Following on from the B-series fuel pump thread, I have a B-series, twin carbs, electric fuel pump. Wee beastie has just failed her MOT on amongst other things fuel dribbling from the carb overflows.

Easy solution turn the pressure down. I fitted a few years back a fuel pressure regulator (Filter King AKA Malpassi) precisely to stop this problem. So I turn the pressure down. Great, only I went out for a ride with eldest and the car splutters to a halt on the Rebourn roundabout, reason? no fuel. Hmmm. ther seems to be an infinitely thin line between delivering too much pressure for the carbs to handle and none getting through at all.

Has anyone else had problems with these regulators?

Have you fitted new float valves? I've never had the need for pressure regulator on any 'B'series engine I've had[MG Magnette,MGB,Marlin with B series.Try Burlen fuel services for parts, they are based in Salisbury if memory is correct.

Needle valves ok and serviced. Perhaps my petrol pump is too powerful?

Did the pump come off any particular car and where have you got it located?
I'm thinking along th line of differences between say a pump for Mgb and one for a Morris minor. The Minor is bulkhead located and as such requires it to have a high suction capability but relativaly small pressure delivery, the Mgb or mini pump is the reverse due to them being mounted close to tank.

The pump is a thing that ticks loudly under the rear of the car. Should it stop clicking once the carbs are full? I don't know what make it is, certainly not SU maybe "Facet"?

Su pumps generally give a rapid series of clicks when ignition is first switched on then should only be heard to click occasionly, not familair with 'facet' pumps. Still can't help feeling that the problem lies in the carb with float valves .Did you replace the seat at the same time as valve? Is the float level correct according to manual?
