Dane, re-reading your posts above, it's just dawned on me what you were saying, and that there are TWO issues involved here (Du'h): one is 'fixing' the Cortina front suspension so that it suits the Berli's lower weight. With this, all you want it to get the suspension to sit at the SAME height as it was in the donor - simple cut the springs, or fit softer ones.
The other 'issue' is (if I read you correctly) if you actually want the suspension to sit EVEN LOWER than it was in the Cortina, in which case chopping off MORE of the spring would put the suspension into a permanent 'dive' state = negative wheel camber.
