The tidy-up continues with the engine being removed yesterday so that the chassis can be cleaned and painted. Shock horror, off side engine mount has strained the chassis rail and split it ! The mount was for the "new" 1750 Ital engine - the weld is good but the chassis rail has split ! Welding should fix it but it might be worth checking in case it has happened to anyone else. I wasn't obvious until the engine was out and the muck was cleaned off.

Has the car ever had a front end collision? When my car hit a Metro head on the engine almost tore the mounts inhalf!
to make sure the crack doesnt migrate drill a small hole at each end of the crack before its welded with full penetration. -

Thanks Ben, I'll make sure the crack is drilled first. Never had front end damage - only rear but the tow-bar took the hit.Comment
