  • Engine

I bought a marlin roadster early this year (mid life crisis) great fun! it has a
1700cc Ital engine, with distributor parts getting difficult to find, this is the
only problem. I was contemplating changing the engine nothing to fancy, I am
mechanically minded but I would prefere an easy change, limited space does'nt help,
    any advice. Cheers

Can I ask what parts you're having trouble sourcing ?
Points are shared with later Mini, Metro etc[Mini spares]
Condensor is same as fitted to 1500 Midget [Mg spares outlets]
Rotor arm is same as fitted to Rover Sd1 2600 [Rimmer bros]
Distributor cap same as Austin princess ,Sherpa van -this is the only item I can see might be a problem
The most obvious choice of engine has to be the 1800 marina as it shares the same mounting as 1700 and should only require minor mods to fit.Parts availability is excellant as almost all is shared with Mgb.You can use the MGB engine but you need the front engine plate from the 1800 marina as well as some other changes to clutch ,flywheel etc. Ford crossflow or Pinto engines will need mountings installed on chasssis to accomodate but have the advantage of using 5 speed gearbox from Sierra.
