You can put a Ford 5 speed on the back of the 'a ' series but the conversion is expensive A firm called Frontline who specialise in Midget/Sprite stuff do such a kit I believe. Other option is combining parts from Marina gearbox together with Triumph dolomite overdrive box to produce a overdrive conversion.

So. here we go again. I have finally managed to get a couple of days off work and get the Marlin off the floor. I bought a 3 part clutch kit off ebay in December - hooray ! and was about to get the gearbox off when I tried it again. All gears available..... a bit of a screech from the plate but nothing major, considering it has not moved since Nov. Brilliant, over the moon.. until I put my foot down on the clutch again and the slave cylinder spat its guts all over the floor, piston, spring and all. Now, I am guessing this pretty much confirms this is a slave issue. Although I am now struggling to get one of those. However I have ordered a repair kit as the inside of the cylinder does not look to bad but I cannot get the nuts off the cylinder and it was a complete nightmare to get out past the actuating arm. Any ideas ?

sorry to bring bad news and I hope i am wrong. I had a similar problem on another vehicle - turned out the centre of the clutch plate had come adrift from the linings. I think the only way you will resolve this is to pull the box and change the clutch.

Have to agree with Cameron, the only way that I can see the slave cylinder spitting out it's internals is if it's piston 'overtravels' and that has to be a result of some mechanical fault with clutch assy.Had an MG Midget that had the pressure plate detach itself from the main assy- that caused a few problems!!!

I think you are entirely correct. After convincing myself that I could fix it with a new slave and new pipework I rebuilt it all only to find the actuator arm completely swimming around in thin air. I can only assume there is some sort of problem with the clutch / release bearing / dowel pins which connect it all together, I have once again accepted the inevitable and have raised him 1Ft off the ground in order to take the box off. If it were not such a bloody lovely car I would kick it. Alas when it will be fixed I shall once again enjoy it.

you will need to get on with it - i predict Summer will be on 21st April this year. either side of that date and we will be subject to rain sleet and snow - but then again, I live in wales.
