  • Fuel Gauge reads back to front - a solution

I've just solved a problem with my roadster and the background might be useful to other Marlin owners. I didn't build my car but when I bought it the fuel gauge read back to front ie: full when empty etc. My gauges and fuel sender are made by VDO (still going strong) and are a matched set. The problem arises when the fuel sender is assembled incorrectly; very easy to do. Again it is a simple fix requiring one screw to be released and the float arm reversing. That's it. I have to thank John Gare of ETB Instruments for the technical steer to the solution; we had just about run out of practical options on the roadster forum. I can't praise John or his helpful attitude enough and would reccommend them to any future builder.

I hope this info proves helpful to someone in the future and I do have a copy of the tech sheet which fully explains the installation of VDO fuel guages if required.

    Cheers Alan

I managed to do that as well. I put the sender together exactly as in the instructions - which turn out to be exactly 180 degrees wrong (Fortunately when you pull the sender wire form the gauge is reads full so we were OK for the SVA!)
