  • Mini heater

I would like to know how to get a mini heater in. I just cant seem to squeeze it in between the transmission tunnel and the scuttle. I have tried everything bar vaseline and mallet. There must be a trick. PLease dont tell me you have to do it before everything else?

    Re: Mini heater

It's a snuggish fit if you haven't raised the tunnel height or otherwise chopped things about to accomodate large engines and gearboxes...but no problems otherwise! I'd guess the margin to be about 1-2" in a "standard" Marina-based car? Can't tell for sure at the moment 'cos mine's all in pieces...but I know I can just slide the carpet and backing under it and there's enough room to run cables and stuff above it.

      Re: Mini heater

Fitting a heater is the single best usability upgrade ever! Esp as my Marlin's my only car and serves 4-season duty...

I looked into Mini heater options for my Mark1, but in the end opted for the "factory specified" herald heater bolted to the engine-side of the firewall blowing through a little letter-box slot. Works VERY well.

I found a perfect-condition heater on ebay or a tenner inc p+p, and the hoses and switchgear cost peanuts.

Search this forum for "heater" for some photos of the installation...

      Cheers,
      Ty

My mini heater fits in no problem, can you get different sizes? Just put it back in - ongoing rebuild - I'll see if I can get a photo tomorrow.

          Re: Mini heater

Fitted a Mini unit after originally having the 'Marlin' one in situ as I wanted demisters.Like Jez had about 1 inch clearance with the carpets etc in place. Also fitted one in son's Ford based roadster with no probs. Don't think there are different sizes but later units may be dual speed fan.

            Re: Mini heater

hmmm. My car is YKC Romero. Maybe the transmission tunnel is higher? There is no clearance at all. I wondered if you had to slide it in from the side rather than the front? Maybe I shall look at a different sort of heater. The Herald one seems interesting but I have to have it inside - Im fitting a V8 and so engine space is at a premium.
Thanks so far - have had my moneys worth just from the forum :-)

I seem to remember someone writing an article for 'Pitstop' that involveed the use of a sierra matrix in a housing of his own dimensions/design.I realise that this would involve more work but may offer a solution other than the expensive options offered by Europa,Kit car solutions etc.If its of interest let me have your address and I'll send you a copy.

                    Re: Mini heater

Bit late as I think you are taking a different route but here is the mini heater in situ. Bit scabby but it worksand will be hidden when its finished - eventually !

thanks trevor - that's really useful - there is much more room there than in the Romero - and its useful to know that without a tin opener I wont get mine in! Anyone want a nice mini heater???
