  • Water Temp Gauge Readings

When I had a Marina 1800 B series engine fitted using MGB temp gauge the temp reading was ok. When I fitted a Pinto 2lt engine using or trying several ford sender units the MGB gauge pionter went to hot as soon as the ignition was switched on.
I fitted a sender from a VX Astra but was not sure from what model and the gauge seemd to read slightly under Normal VS the old Marina engine sender.
I got some new Ford Gauges from a Mk2 Cortina GT/1600E and fitted them.
Now the temp gauge reads just above the cold part of the gauge when it should really be in normal position.
I spoke to Burton Power and got a Ford sender XTT14 as they recommened for the Pinto and any Ford gauge but the pionter still gose to hot within seconds.
I have fitted another sender from a VX Astra 14i engine and the gauge seems to read spot on at the momment.
I was thinking of changing the voltage stabilizer for a ford one ???.as the wiring is ex Marina.
Has any one had or got this problem and what did you do to fix it as I am holding my breath on my solution.

    Re: Water Temp Gauge Readings

You need everything to match I am afraid. Sender, gauge and voltage stabiliser. Be careful how you rewire it though cause I would guess the existing stabiliser is also used for any other instruments. You could end up with a working temperature gauge - but nothing else!

      Re: Water Temp Gauge Readings

      Finally got this issue sorted.
The cause of the fuel and temp gauge not working correctly was due to Marina Voltage stabilizer has a earth wire conected, and this causes the temp gauge pionter to go high on the gauge and the fuel gauge to show 1/2 fuel when empty.
I have used the Marina stabilizer for the temp gauge and not conecting the earth wire, also using an VX Astra 14i temp sender and for the fuel gauge I have used a second Ford Voltage Stabilzer and using the earth wire.So each gauge has its own stabilzer and now ok.
