  • Brake Conversion

Hi everyone i was just wondering if anybody else had replaced there front brakes with anything other than triumph. Looking at mine the brake pads seem to be quite small and would expect me to be replacing them all the time.

As my calipers are a bit worse for wear I was thinking of fitting some nice big brembos or similar.

    Anybody got any suggestions? Cheers

      Re: Brake Conversion

I think Toms car used Vitesse running gear so it could have either 9" discs or the later 9.7" discs with P16 calipers. You can get upgraded kevlar pads and Turbo groove drilled discs not cheap though £100 + pair. With the car being lighter and the engine being further back in the car I would just go for getting what you have working properly. I find my problem is the pads glaze up unless you work them hard even then they dont wear much.

        Tom,
Don't quote me on this but I am fairly convinced that the Caterham uses Triumph front uprights / discs / calipers. Therefore any of the Caterham brake upgrade kits should in theory fit. Try all the usual suspects - Hispec / Rally design / comp brake etc... All Triumph specialists and Caterham specialists..

              Re: Brake Conversion

Tom, Most Triumph factors have the seals and pistons(some even have stainless steel) if you want to restore your existing calipers. If you get replacements you need to check if they are imperial threads on the hydraulics(most likely) or if they are off a late car they may be metric. I think M16 caliper is metric. Make sure you measure the disc as the caliper for each size of disc are different.

If all you want to do is repair your existing calipers go to www.brakeparts.co.uk I have used them in the past and have just about everything you need from stainless pistons ,seals, and calipers

                    Re: Brake Conversion

NO they will be for the 9" disc that the Vitesse 6 (1600) and Herald 13/60 uses. The 2ltr Mk 1 and mk2 use the bigger
                    9.7" disc
