  • Roadster petrol tank

On the top of the tank there is a 6 hole flange where the fuel pickup pipe comes through, secured with 6 screws to a larger flange which in turn is screwed down to the tank with 4 screws. To gain access to the tank which set of screws do I remove first, and also is there a strainer fitted to the end of the pickup pipe ?

Take the six out leave the four. At a guess the bigger ring flange is meant to be a permanent fixture. It's not the normal tank on a Roadster (Escort), do you know what it's from? Any chance of a Pic.? There should be a fine filter on the end of the dip tube.

Thanks Hugh for your reply,I have since removed the dip tube and confirm that there is a cylindrical shape fine filter that slides off the tube. I found a lot of contamination iside so the tank is coming out. I will send you a picture of it when I remove it from the car

Glad that worked. Did you see my entry on 21 March under Fuel Tank? I had to replace mine and took the oportunity to make a larger one. It's turned out at 11 gals and so far has been great. It also allowed me to tuck my ex. system up better and still allowed me to keep the tool box that I had fitted on the N/S between the tank and the chassis
