  • NEW MOT! but some questions. Weight, rad, respray.

After 6 years stored in my garage I have a new MOT! Passed easily, all my prep work paid off
Hopefully I will be able to Tax easily as car was not SORN but no DVLA reminders were sent out.

    A couple of questions
    1. What is the kerb weight of a 1.8 Marlin SWB Roadster. I was asked at MOT?
    2. Anyone around Sussex or even further afield know of a good radiator repair/replacemenet company. I think I want to go three core after 25 years. I beleive it is a Chevette rad.
    3. Has anyone tried to fit an aux fan remote from the radiator to force air out of the engine bay side vents?
    4. What sort of cost can I expect for a respray as she is looking a bit shabby.

Guildford Radiators did mine, they collect/test for free too.

They made a nice job of mine for £500 all in

      Hi Steve,
Congratulations on the MOT pass, Good luck with the registration.

      Marlin unladen weight.
My build manual gives typical weights for finished kits as :-
      1.3 Marina and 4 cylinder Triumph 1450 lbs. - 660 kgs.
      1.8 Marina and 6 cylinder Triumph 1570 lbs. - 715 kgs.

I actually had my own car weighed at a public weighbridge and being a 1.3 Marina base it weighed in at 660 kgs. and I was issued with a weighbridge ticket. Cost of the use of the public weighbridge was £12:00 + VAT.
The weight of the vehicle has to be entered into the computer at the MOT station when carrying out the brake efficiency test. Last year the examiner entered the weight of a Ford Fiesta in for my Marlin as weights are not listed for them.

      Hope this helps

      Regards Austin

Re: NEW MOT! but some questions. Weight, rad, respray.

        Thanks guys.
Guessed the weight for MOT at 700Kg so with empty fuel tank was probably about right.
Radiator is off to Brighton Radiators, part of same group as Guilford rads, to have additional core added, expecting a £100 - £120 bill. Guy there immediately identified rad a Chevette even though it was out of the car.
Will add details later, perhaps on useful links place.
Looking forward to a cool running Marlin that
I will feel happier driving in traffic.
Might even fit a proper fan to cool it, the existing cut down metro job is a bit suspect.
As for respray might follow that link up later in the year.

          Steve,
I suggest your guess at 700kg was fairly accurate.
I have just acquired a SWB roadster with an 1.8 engine and the documentation included a weighbridge certificate for 690kg - dated 1985, but I can't see how it can have changed that much!
