  • Club meeting in Hertfordshire?

    Hiya all
I've been thinking for a while that we could do with a club rendezvous for Herts members, and it was of surprise to me that I would have to travel a long distance to meet up with other Marlin owners.

I've arranged an insert in the next mag to cover this point, but in the meantime wondered how much local interest there might be. I live in Kimpton, which is situated in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by Welwyn Garden City, Stevenage, Hatfield, Hitchin, Harpenden for example.

I often go to a meeting of SG7s kitcars at Baldock, who are more than happy when I turn up in my Berli. However, I am usually outnumbered by Westerhams, Caterhams and various other makes, and I thought it would be nice to get a group of Marlins together. In the absence of our own meeting, I am certain that the SG7s wouldn't mind a few Marlins turning up, usually on the 1st Sunday each month - see their website: www/sg7kitcars.co.uk

So what about it Hertfordshire owners? Are there enough of us to arrange our own get-together, or else see you at SG7s?
    Cheers
    Mike

      Hi Don
Thought I was not going to get a response. I hope to attend the next SG7s meeting on Sunday 7 September. Might see you there? Pic of my Berli attached for ease of recognition.
      Cheers

        Re: Club meeting in Hertfordshire?

        Hi Mike,

SHEB includes Herts (Surrey, Hertfordshire, Essex & Bedfordshire). We were trying to fix a date for the next SHEB meeting and coincidentally we were looking at doing something in Herts for the next meet. What we were looking at is rather than just going to a pub for a nice meal and kicking tyres, we were wondering if we could find an event or local attraction to also attend. We were looking at late September, early October. Do you want to help set something up?

          Hi Keith
I am willing to help, provide local knowledge etc.

One venue that I have used in the past with SG7s club is the car museum at Stondon in Beds. It is north of Hitchin in Herts and their Website is www.transportmuseum.co.uk

For group visits, they used to give a discount, but the basic cost is £5-£6, depending on age! There is a replica of Captain Cook's Endeavour ship, as well as a whole load of cars from bygone days.

          What do you think?
          Cheers
          Mike

I like the idea of the car museum but I wonder if we can the the SHEB folk to travel that far - we'll float the idea. I was hoping to find something in south Herts not too far from the M25. The only things that What's On has thrown up is a "Dear Rutting" walk at Ashridge and an Xmas Craft fair at Cuffley Hall!! I am not sure displays of testosterone, bellowing and horn clashing is everyone's cup of tea and I am not sure I want to be reminded of Christmas just yet! Any thoughts on something further south? I suppose we should move this from Berlinetta to Misc or even email me on [email protected]

Another venue is the De Havilland aviation museum in Herts, which is just off M25 Junction 22, not a million miles from St Albans. A few years ago, I went there with a bunch of SG7s members, and we were given a warm welcome, a guided tour and with tea & cake! It is run by volunteers, who refurbish World War 2 planes. All very interesting.

              They have a web-site: www.dehavillandmuseum.co.uk

Might be worth a try on our members.
              Cheers

Sorry, the web-site address seems to have got mixed in with the next sentence. Try this:- www.dehavillandmuseum.co.uk

                  Re: Club meeting in Hertfordshire?

Subject to weather conditions (I still do not have a windscreen or hood) i'd be interested in either of these trips.

                    Re: Club meeting in Hertfordshire?

We are suggesting Sun 28th Sept and trying to organise a narrowboat trip after lunch at Pitstone, south of Leighton Buzzard. Mike and Peter, can you make it? Please email me either way. If anyone else is interested let me know asap

                      Re: Club meeting in Hertfordshire?

That does sound like a great idea but i'm afraid it really does depend on the weather on the day as I still won't have my windscreen or hood fitted by then. As I only 'finished' my Sportster build this summer I am a bit paranoid about getting it full of rainwater!!
If the weather is fine, we'll be there!

Probably best to move this post to the Misc forum section so more members see it.

                      cheers

                      Peter

Sounds a good idea, as it is only about 20 miles from my village. Just need to persuade my Wife to come - she has a history of back pain (slipped disc), and my Berli does not provide the necessary creature comforts! I wish I could fit some better seats.

Any ideas on cost / timetables?
                        Cheers

No problemo! How does this one look? I've also got it in hard-top mode if you want.
