  • Lift-the-dot punch?

Has anyone got a 'lift-the-dot' punch that I could borrow? (You'll know what it is, if you've got one!)
I will pay all postage costs, etc

My email address is [email protected]

    thanks

Crikey, I did not know there was one! I use my trusty Swiss Army knife. There are sufficient tools to make the various holes with this!

No Terry, it really is a genuine, Victorinox, Swiss Army knife. I also own a Swiss Navy knife which could, I suppose, be applicable to the end of the Ides of March! I can post a photo if required.........

          Apparently they are available -

Buy it Now £47.91 + £4.23 from Canada
I think I'll stick with a sharp knife.

I found that if you sacrifice one clip by sharpening the four prongs you could tap the clip down onto a wooden block to make the four small holes then mark the big hole through the clip then use a multi size punch that is like a pair of plyers. Frost have the lift dot punch £50 fffffff how much?

              Thanks, Ben.
Yes, I know you can buy them, that's why I was hoping to borrow one :-)
I was thinking along the same lines but hadn't thought of sharpening a spare clip. I'll give that idea a try,
              thanks

                Re: Lift-the-dot punch?

                Hi Peter,

I used an ordinary leather belt hole punch with the 6 different rotating heads on it (very cheap from markets). What I did was to experiment with a bit of scrap leather to get the spacing right then it was a doddle. I used the largest hole punch to cut out the main hole (I seem to remember I had to take several extra cuts as the hole was just not quite big enough) and I used the smallest punch for the 4 holes to take the fold over metal tabs.

If you are considering buying one, I'll go halves with you. Trying to save a few shilling could spoil a very expensive hood.
                  regards

Thanks, Mike, i'll keep that in mind. I am going to have a go at Ben's idea above combined with an 8mm punch I have on order. If that looks messy on the first one I do, i'll go for the proper tool.
                    thanks, Peter

I used Ben's suggestion above today and it worked just fine!

Thanks a lot for the idea!

Glad it worked ok. Perhaps I could pattern the idea.
