Ford type9 gear box mount/cross member

    Hi All
I have a type9 5 speed box in my s/w marlin. However the gearbox cross member /mounting is the ford type that is bolted through the floor. Has anyone fitted this type of box and used a cross member that is attached to the chassis? if so can you provide a drawing/photo or measurements. I have not had any problem with the original arrangement but feel there should be something stronger

Hi Bob mine has a chanel section wide enough to go round the mount in the centre, and narrowing to about 2inch at the outer ends and about 1 1/4 inch deep bolted through the floor rails and the tunnel bottom rail.seems to be very solid, and with a big wing sump no lower than anything else. Bob,

My type9 box cross member is mounted to the floor each side with a 2" square plate on the inside of the car that the support bolts go through and I have not had any issues.

On my installation I am planning to use an escort mount with its 'wings' bent up to the inside dimension on the transmission tunnel and then bolting through the sides in a similar manner to the Marina box standard Marlin.

I have a cross-member with a U section on it, which picks up on the original mounting holes...kind of like Steve. The x-member bolts though the chassis side rails/floor, so its semi-structural and the "main" location is via the tunnel sides as with the Marina box. The box sits on a mount which bolts to the x-member.

              Hi Bob
Your post arrived about 30 mins after I put the damn thing back in the car, otherwise I'd have attached a piccie..!
I'll try and scratch out a rough sketch and post it up, or let me have your email. I work away so it may take a few days...
