  • Badly matched transmission

Can anyone help with this issue? My car is fitted with a 2.8 Ford V6 (from a Granada) matched to a Granada three speed auto box, linked to a mark 3 Cortina back axle. The car currently runs on 185/75/80/15 tyres.
The engine in its present state of tune theoriticaly gives out about 130BHP. Link that to a car that weighs less than 1000kg and I should get sparkling performance. Unfortunately i don't. The car pulls only 20mph per 1000 revs and gets out accellerated by old Vauxhall Corsas and even MGBs.
I would be obliged for any help to sort out the problem.
    Tx

I'm a bit confused by this. 20mph per 1,000 revs strikes me as being very low geared which is lousy for cruising, but 0-60 should be blistering...

20 mph per 1000rpm is average for a 1500 to 2000 cc car in direct drive (fourth gear). My 4 speed Rocket box and my Type 9, both in fourth gear give around this figure.
The autobox may need a check as it sounds as though it takes top gear too early when accelerating.
      Will it kick down OK?
