I am currently building a Romero. I have a nice 3.5 V8 sitting in it along with a 5 speed gearbox. However, There is just not going to be enough room for me to do what I want in the engine bay! To say nothing about hte expense of getting a bigger rad, doubling the exhaust and fabricating a suitable OS manifold. SO I give up - not on the car - just on the engine - what would you recommend as a better engine - I want something with a bit of poke but that will sit in there nicely without looking like a Crow in a budgie suit! Was thinking about a fiat twin cam?
Oh yes if anyone wants a nice V8 and g'box....

2.9 cologne EFi V6 + Type 9

Just finishing up a Zetec + Type 9 and it sits in quite neatly. I used a Griffin 'Total System' as cheaper alternative to throttle bodies.

Zetec is tried, tested and will be around for ages. Also if switching in th future to the current Duratec the change would be more straighforward.

The idea of a zetec is nice but sounds pricey. Guy on ebay selling a fiat twin cam wants £400 for engine and box (untested)does that sound reasonable - i reckon i could get a whole sierra for that! lol. Will look up the griffin system though.

Try a Rover T16 Turbo...will mate easily to your LT77 gearbox (which I assume you are using with the V8 - and I have a backplate you can copy)...200bhp stock with scope for 300+...cheap as chips compared to duratecs.

Well, I never said there wouldn't be issues..! The nasp T16 fits a Marina-base snugly (4.5" ground clearance)...and with a degree of creativity it should be possible to hang an intercooler and pipework somewhere...also thinking about it the starter and turbo might want to occupy the same space...but that depends on eventual gearbox choice. I'm in the final (ha!) stages of the conversion...so if you want more info pls email.
