I have to renew my breakdown cover (currently with the AA) and I feel I am being overcharged (the polite way of saying ripped off). Has anyone got any tales of woe about other companies not performing. There are plenty of cheaper offers out there but it is more about how well they do when called out rather than what they charge.

Re: Breakdown cover - anyone got any good/bad tales
I'm with the RAC. When my sporster's wishbone broke I signed up. Took them a little while to get to me but they did a good job getting the car on a low loader and dropped the car back in the garage. Not needed them since then fortunately
Thanks, Patrick

I'm with the AA.
My Pajero broke it's flywheel and thus the clutch halfway up Bridport hill on my way back to Cornwall on December 24 last year at around 2350! They got a transporter to me in about 40 minutes, dropped the truck off at a garage near my home and drove me home too. About 200 miles. Very good service and worth the money IMHO.
It was the classic self destructing twin-mass flywheel. Replaced it with a very sturdy Shogun type flywheel(yup, at considerable expense!)Marlin Berlinetta 2.1 Efi

Re: Breakdown cover - anyone got any good/bad tales
I'm with the AA. Took out cover for foreign travel last summer for £60. Had wheel bearing go in France. They picked up the car and took it to a local garage. When they realised they couldn't fix it we were put up in a hotel overnight, given a hire car for rest of holiday (4 days), car was brought back to ferry terminal (where we dropped off the hire car) and we were met by AA relay at the port back in England and brought home - nothing extra to pay!! I've been a member since 1972 and used the AA on (too) many occasions and have never had a problem.

Re: Breakdown cover - anyone got any good/bad tales
Been with the RAC for 10yrs. now. Covered for both of us in any vehicle, passenger or driver, even breaking down at home. Have used them several times when I had the Volvo tank and they were very prompt and got us home. Cover this year was £80.
