  • How many Berlis were produced and how many still exist?

Does anyone know the answers to the above. I recently went to a local classic car show for the first time in many years and would like to display some history of the marque and car as many others do, makes interesting reading. Definitely would have won if all the mums and kids had voted for “shiny red racing car” Lost out to an early Aston, ’57 Cooper F1 car and an immaculate Borgwood Isabella.

    Hi Paul

The pics need to be 200 kb or less.

I think approximately 250 Berlis were made but I might be completely wrong! We only know of 96 active club members so of course there are many out there either still unfinished or not part of the club and either being used or languishing in garages....

Hi Paul, Some time ago, the club obtained most of the original records from the Marlin factory. They were about to be destroyed, but we got there first and saved them. One of our members volunteered to make a register of the Berlinetta's produced at the Plymouth factory, and from those records he produced a figure of 405 Berli built.[includes both Cortina and Sierra based cars.] The record keeping was a bit iffy, because there is a instance where two chassis had the same number, later changed however. He believes that figure will be fairly accurate. How many are left ?, is any bodies guess, we know of a couple that went up in smoke, and probably , some written off due to accidents, but they are a tough car , and most will have survived somewhere. Brian.

According to Peter Filby's book "Classic Kit Cars" published in 1997 Approx 475 berli's had been produced including YKC kits and they were still in production then.
Ben Caswell probably not the last word on anything here!!
