  • Thermostat temps - Overheating

Looking at the options of thermostat operating temps for Standard B series engine. It might help a little for some people but if you are overheating it might be worth thinking about.

The rad pressre cap should be 15psi
The Standard stat is 82 degC but high and low options at 88 and 74 are available for cold and hot climates.

So if you an find one a 74 degC might help with overheating issues.

It is possible to run without a thermostat but warm up will take longer, leading to high fuel consumtion with the choke out.

These numbers were based on the use of leaded fuels. I am not sure what the effect of running unleaded that I think contributes to higher running temps.

    Re: Thermostat temps - Overheating

I tried with the 'stat out when I had overheating issues with my B - didn't make much difference. The cheap/easy fixes never do seem to work for me!

I running without a 'stat now, using electronically switched pump.
