crack in exhaust manifold

Hi All
I have noticed a slight crack in my exhaust manifold (cast) anyone know if it it possible to get this welded ?. The crack does not go right through the manifold.

Bob - you should be able to find a local specialist who can weld cast-iron. I know Tuffweld in Birmingham do it.

Otherwise I have spare cast SC & TC cast manifolds available...!

Is the manifold very similar to the late MGB? I think the critical dimensions are the same.
The only significant difference is that a Marina TC exhaust manifold has extensions between the ports that provide a heat transfer path to the inlet manifold that are not on a MGB.
If that is all they are for, with a Roadsters tendancies to overheat they are probably unnecessary.

Was your manifold wrapped with tape? I seem to remember reading in one of Peter Burgess's books that in his experience, as the manifold was hotter beacause it was no longer air cooled it was prone to greater expansion/contraction forces. I also remember that he noticed no change in performance.

If I've got the right Bob it's a crossflow.Yes they can be welded but the cost is prohibitive unless the item is non obtainable - I enquired at a firm in Swadlincote who are able to do this work

Guess I should have said it is a ford 1600 cross flow engine (Hi Alan) I have found a small company near Grantham that may be able to do it, waiting for an e mail, However would be interested if anyone has a spare in the garage. Thanks every one for the interest

If its a tubular manifold as per Mexico they cracked down the middle of the primary collector. My old escort van with a well worked Mexico in it had a stap welded across the primaries to prevent the joint splitting.

Bob, on my DOHC Roadster every time I gun the engine it twists on the mounts slightly and eventually it cracked the bottom end of the manifold. This happened twice until I had a piece o stainless flexible welded to the bottom of the manifold which touch wood has been OK now for several years. I saw one being discarded in a local exhaust center recently and scrounged it (well you just have to don't you). If you think it might help you are welcome to it.

Bob, having re-read what I posted I can see how you thought I was referring to a manifold. What in fact I had recovered was a length of stainless flexible exhaust that would need to be cut away from the discarded section of exhaust and welded onto the bottom of your manifold to relieve the stresses that it suffers under acceleration. The offer still stands but it will only be of use once you have repaired your manifold.
