Don't think you can blame printer - mail for club goods is taking several days.

If France was the option instead of Spain, there are ferries everyday which means you can get 4 or 5 days easily

        Re: Marlins to Spain

        Hi again
The only reason for suggesting Spain was that the roads in the Picos looked like great Marlin roads! No doubt we could find some great roads/views in France too. I've just checked the prices for a couple of 2-star hotels (in a package with BF) in Brittany and Normandy, and prices come out at:
        3/5/7nights//single - 160/237/302//51
        Food for thought?

I wouldn't be surprised if packets/parcels took a few more days at this time of year, but ordinary post shouldn't suffer undue delay.
        Cheers - Dave

Everyones camping gear could be put into a self storage unit for a week for less than £20 the lot and picked up on return

            Re: Marlins to Spain

Nice idea Keith but we'd have to find a storage unit nearby and I don't fancy having to make an extra trip to collect it again.

Can we stick with Spain? I've got my head round going there now! I'm OK with 3 days! I assume the three days are IN Spain rather than inclusive of the ferry travel?!

              Re: Marlins to Spain

              Hi Spanish adventurers

It's time to make a more definite proposal, and see if most of you are happy with it. Caroline & I still have to ensure we can take the time off work, so we're checking this as I type. If there is a strong move to another date we'll have to check that out at work too!

We propose going for a 3 night break in Spain after the Exmoor run so that those who want can go there first, then on to Spain. Exmoor is on Sat 8th May, those attending will need to make arrangements for accommodation themselves (Fri, Sat nights). I will liaise with Brittany Ferries to see if they prefer one big payment or individual payments, and whether we need any special arrangements for the cars. First we agree what we're doing!

I suggest staying at the El Rebecco in Fuente De, Cantabria. The suggested itinery would be:
Sun 09th May - Plymouth to sail at 16.30, night on ferry.
Mon 10th May - Arrive Santander 13.00, drive to hotel (night 1).
Tue 11th May - Drive around Picos de Europa (night 2).
Wed 12th May - Cable-car from hotel to top (900m up), walk down, or other less strenuous option! (night 3).
Thu 13th May - Santander to sail at 15.00, night on ferry.
Fri 14th May - Arrive Plymouth 0930, drive home.
Cost for ferry (no meals) and 3 nights B&B in hotel I believe will be 442 pounds for a couple sharing or 267 pounds for a single person.

I've had a mixture of communications, by phone and email, as well as on the forum. Can those who read this respond here, whether you are in favour or not. Any who don't reply, I'll follow up at the weekend via the other channels.

              Regards - Dave & Caroline

                Re: Marlins to Spain

                I'm in favour.

Happy for you to make the decisions Dave. I have to make too many normally so it's nice for someone else to have the responsibility!

The timing all looks very civilised I'm please to say.

We return on the Pitstop weekend so I will have to delay the copy a bit as I won't feel much like knuckling down to 20 hours of typing after driving back from Plymouth! Apart from that purely personal opinion, I'm happy to go with the arrangements and pay whenever to whoever.

What numbers are we looking at? Will we have any Satnavs amongst us? Mine doesn't go out of the UK.

Count me in Dave. Just a single! Sue, my sat nav is European, and have used it in Spain before.

Hi! As we are hoping to go with you all to Spain we will have a Berli empty garage 20+ minutes from the ferry port where you are welcome to leave camping gear. Whilst just in Cornwall it is 10 minutes from A38 for easy getaway on your return. Andrew

                          Re: Marlins to Spain

                          Hi all
We have 6 cars / 9 people up for this, so it looks like its on, as detailed above! I've been in touch with BF, and their allocation of rooms at the hotel is 3 twins, other rooms are on request. Presumably, other operators have some rooms allocated too, but as there are 30 rooms in total, there should be enough! I will need to put in a booking for the full number, then we will get all or nothing. If confirmed, I will be liable for the deposit of 30 pounds per person. There is a 10% off offer until 18th Jan, so its worth getting on with this.

Now we know who is involved, its probably easier to use email to communicate, and end this thread. I've got all the email addresses except Andy Rogers, can someone let me have it please?

                          Current list of attendees:
                          Dave & Caroline Kitson
                          Keith & Margaret Howell
                          Andrew Butcher & partner
                          Sue Roedel
                          Andy Rogers
                          Bob Cawte

Please all confirm number of people and names, and car type in first instance. I may need car length too.

                          Cheers - Dave - dave.kitson(at)blueyonder.co.uk
