  • Matching fuel gauge to sender

Having been frustrated by my failure to deal with this issue. I searched the internet and found 'Speedy Cables(London)Ltd, Abercrave, Swansea,SA9 1SQ. Tel.no.01639-732213.
This company took over the remanufacture of 'Smiths' instruments. Sending them an old fuel gauge with the resistance measurements of the sender when full and empty they returned a 'new' gauge calibrated to match the sender. It works perfectly. The cost including packing and postage was about £80. Expensive perhaps, but only needs to be done once.

Re: Matching fuel gauge to sender

Hi Paul, thanks for this information, I have problems with my fuel gauge fluctuating wildly, although it reads Empty and Full ok, just normal driving makes it read erratically as the fuel moves around the tank. It seems that Marlin gave customers whatever gauges and sender units they had in stock, I have a Stewart Warner gauge and a CAI Sender which are not compatible with each other, I suppose after 8 years they won't do anything about it, and will have to buy a new gauge or sender, which as you say are not cheap. I hope they put more effort into their current operations.

Re: Matching fuel gauge to sender

Hello Steve, It was easier for me being here in the UK. My Berlinetta has a Ford tank/sender - Mk 1 Escort.
I am very pleased with the result.
