  • lowering front; springs? Cortina mk3 based

Car I have has 14" wheels. The back looks fine but the front has too much clearance under the front mudguards. Are shorter springs available, if this is the answer.
    Cortina Mk3 based.

    thanks John

Re: lowering front; springs? Cortina mk3 based

    Hi John.

Most of us use 15" rims, and in my case, 205/65 section tyres.
I replaced my front springs with two obtained from Burton Power. They sell three types of Cortina springs. Standard length, standard minus one inch and standard minus two. I run the minus two inch type.
You must beware that your negative camber will increase as your ride height decreases if you fit shorter springs. This is an ongoing Berlinetta phenomenon. I found that it affected handling and braking.
I fitted adjustable top wishbones to cure this snag. They were from YKC - now defunct. James Dresch is going to attempt re-manufacture of these wishbones so watch this space. Check the other posts here about these wishbones and give James a call.

The Burton springs have a good rate, about 350 lb/inch and seem to do the job well.

Good luck with the problem - all will be well in the end!
