Dimensions of Pinto Engine + Type 9

    Hi,

My LWB Roadster engine transplant (from 1.3 A-series) is progressing, and I'm 99% sure the route to go is a 2.0l Pinto OHC with a type 9 gearbox.

Reading some threads, there is talk of needing a shallow (Capri) sump. Is this needed for road use, or only for those who go trialling in their Roadsters?

Also, does anyone know the length of the type9 + engine combo? I want to know if putting the gearlever in the existing hole is possible while leaving room for the engine up front?

If it's easier to chat, drop me a line on 07920 495291 and I'll call you back.

    Cheers,
    Darren.

In relative terms A Type 9 gearstick is about 100mm further back than than a Marina. If you try to match the holes it will put the engine way too far forward for it to fit behind the steering rack. You will get better weight distribution by mounting the Pinto lump as far back as you can.
