My duck hood is leaking! Are they supposed to leak, it has no cracks and tears etc? Is there a sealer available, I already use the Renovo cleaning and mouly sealer products?

    Many thanks Roger

    Re: Wet head

I obtained a tin of hood goop from Woolies at one of the kit car shows. Give it a stir and paint it on. I then massaged it in with an old cloth. My ancient hood is waterproof but I still get traces of black on my hands when erecting or folding the hood! I don'i know if they do other colours though.

      Roger,
I had similair problems with my previous cabrio's roof and tried all manner of products before resorting to a new hood. Local car trimmer informed me that most hoods rely on a rubber membrane for the waterproofing not the fabric itself so even though it may appear ok the membrane could be suspect and you get wet!

The stuff you can get from Woolies etc is expensive and only looks good for for a short while. I got the following tip from a 1938 Practical Motorist and it works. Get some linseed oil and colour it with shoe polish (black in my case). Mix it in over heat or micro wave it till it is consistant. Simply paint it on the hood when it has cooled down. Work it well in over the stitching. I do mine about every 2 years. The garage pongs a bit of cricket bats for a while but it's cheap and effective. I worked out the micro wave heating myself. Best of luck.

I found that the woolies goop lasted for years. The hood looks a bit grey now but I have not applied anything to it for five years. It is still waterproof as a recent 950 mile round trip to Holyhead in gales and severe rain storms has proved. The tin has plenty left in it after two applications over the years and I suppose I had better spread some more on soon. I wonder if it is the same linseed/boot polish mix?
