  • IVA Test & Windscreen Glass?

Before I have even prepared my Cabrio for the IVA, I have broken the windscreen. Do I have to have an E mark on the replacement glass, or will a BS mark be acceptable.
I have been told by one of the national windscreen suppliers the BS mark proves its safety, whereas the E mark is more about quality of manufacture?

    Any comments / knowledge?

    Regards
    Mike

Re: IVA Test & Windscreen Glass?

I spoke to VOSA today about their requirement for windscreen glass to be E marked. Apparently the dispensation to use BS marked glass, but not E marked was extended from 29th April 2010 to 28th April 2011.
I have bought a new screen which is only BS marked, which is absolutely fine up until 29th April 2011, and absolutely fine as a replacement screen, but unless VOSA relents, will be unacceptable at the IVA test.
Does anyone have a spare E marked screen they are prepared to swap for a brand new BS marked screen?
Otherwise this could get very expensive! manufacturers seem to only want to make 50 at a time!

I had a spare which I passed on to Lee Hunter, not sure of the markings but may be worth a call to see if he still has it. I purchased it from Marlin and never got to use it so I'm thinking it should be Ok

I cracked the screen on the Javelin demonstrator just before a show (a few years ago now!), and this guy came out to us, cut the screen on site, fitted it and put the correct markings on it. All for less than 100 notes as I recall. A friend has more recently used him to fit a screen to the TVR he rebuilt. May depend on how close he is to you as to whether he can help!

Hi Mike,I remember a member on here using a flat land rover screen with the reqd markings, and having it cut to shape.

My fault - I had a space in the address which I did not spot.
Thanks for the reply - I'll let you know how things develop

Many thanks to all who replied - particularly Danny and Dave Siddall. Dave put me in touch with a guy who was prepared to cut a Cabrio screen from a Landrover screen to include the all important E mark for the IVA. He even came out to fit it whilst out fitting a tractor screen.
Sadly I've heard on the news tonight the company has gone into receivership. So a big thank you to all for the quick responses.
                    Kind regards to all
