Does anybody know a source for the "Zip" style side screens for Roasters? (Mk1 Triumph) The second phase of the restoration is getting very near to finished and I might actually have to drive on the road!!!

Hi Dave,
The company that used to supply Marlin was Lang & Potter but they seem to have moved onto bigger things.Probably easiest to get a Local Trimmer to make a pair. If you have the originals then it would be easy to get them copied. It also may involve replacing the other half of the zip thats on the hood to match the sides.

Noticed this on the Totalkitcar website. May be worth a try if you are still struggling. Nowhere near Yorkshire though, sadly.

Roadster MKII LWB. Built 1988. Marina 1.8TC based. B Series 1950cc engine fitted with twin SU HS4 carburetors and unleaded, big valve head. 4 core Austin Maxi radiator. All Marina 1.8TC running gear including 4 speed gearbox. Minilite style 15"wheels fitted with tall tyres to increase gearing for more relaxed cruising.

Hello Dave. Car looks great. I have recently bought a 1981 built SWB Triumph based Roadster and have a problem with the wheel nuts. Your wheels look the same as mine, OZ wheels written on centre. The wheels are fitted to 5/8 inch spacers which then do not centralise the wheels. The wheels have washers with a stem which takes up the gap from nut to thread. The nuts have lost their chrome and are square at the bottom when they need to be tapered, chewing off the corners. The new nuts I have been offered have a plain tapered washer with them, but the shank is not long enough with both washers. Any thoughts please.

Hi David,
Great to see another early car, what chassis number is it? I would imagine it was bought at a very similar time.
Wheel can be a difficult subject with the Triumph based cars particularly if like me you have the narrower Herald rear axle. I used to have 1" wheel spacer on the back of my car but they were a very questionable piece of engineering!
The wheel fitted now are Minilites specifically designed for the Herald/Spitfire hubs (13 x 4.5J) and they have allowed me to ditch the spacers. The down side is they don't fill the wheel arches as well as yours do.
The nuts you describe sound more like Dolomite or similar where as the minilites use ordinary tapered chrome nuts as you'd find on steel wheels (they have steel inserts). I believe Rimmer Bros suply wheel nuts suitable for minilites which should be ok providing your wheel have the steel inserts. I would assume your car has been fitted with extended studs if you are using wheel spacer so this shouldn't be a problem.

Hello Dave, Thanks for your info. It appears my wheels were originally for Fords [made by GB Alloys in 1985]as the metal inserts have a taper in them. AC Services are looking for some 60 degree taper washers for me. With the spacers my front wheels do extend past the wings, but nothing was said at MOT time!!!
The Chassis No is 1147 built by D G A Giles who is now the TSSC club 13/60 Herald advisor.

That's interesting my car is chassis number 1070 and was date stamped Oct 1980, I believe that means it was car number 70 and if that makes your car number 147 that would suggest quite a production line in 1981.
I am surprised you need wheel spacers on the front of your car, the mark 1's struggle to cover the front wheels even without them. Is this a clearance issue with the suspension? I would recomend a chat with Ben Caswell regarding wheels, he has an understanding of the required "offset" for the Triumph cars. I had Dolomite Sprint wheels on my car at one time and with Ben's advice a change in wheels improved the handling.

However only 236 all Triumph Mk1 kits were produced as the same number sequence was used with a 2 prefix in place of 1 for the first few (49) Mk2kits.
