  • Toyota Exhaust Manifold

A long shot - my engine is a 2 litre 18RG from a 1980 Celica. The exhaust manifold is badly cracked and needs replacement...too bad for welding !

I'm trying my Toyota contacts, so far have located a few hens teeth, but no exhaust manifold....there are two different ones by the way, mine is part number 17141 - 88211.

You never know do you, someone must have one ?

See you at Stoneleigh, mnost likely in my daily driver.

        Re: Toyota Exhaust Manifold

An GT2000 engine I guess, blimey, not seen one of those for a long time. I remember wanting one many years ago.
Now they are probably a collectors car parts and will command high prices as the serious collectors will grab them first.
The engines were used in many kit cars as they were powerful twin cams for their era.
Good luck in your search, perhaps it's time to think about a new exhaust manifold fabricated to suit.

            Re: Toyota Exhaust Manifold

Thanks guys for the replies. Predictably I've been spending hours on the internet, but no luck yet.
Adrian, thanks, but they cannot help.
Lee, the car was an RA40 2000 GT Liftback, registered August 1980, looked very much like a smaller version of the Mustang...see pic.
Steve, yes the cars are very desirable and the engines too these days. I've read somewhere that they were used in the single seat oval track racing cars in the USA, highly tunable. In standard form mine is rated at 140hp (but I don't use it that way, Officer, honest !)
Alan, thanks for looking...I've already sourced a NOS downpipe from ebay, but no luck yet with the manifold
it's a 4 into 2 into 1 system, as Lee says, maybe the answer will have to be a s/s custom system - but I/m not going there just yet !

Will post back here with any info.

                Re: Toyota Exhaust Manifold

You will be hard pushed to find an early 1980's Celica in the average breakers yard. They know the value of some old cars and they will end up in specialist yards.

1985 onwards front wheel drive Celicas with transverse engines are pretty common not so pre 1985 RWD cars.

It is possible to treat a modern Celica engine in much the same way as a Rover by bolting a Type9 on the back but the engine is a very different animal.

                  Re: Toyota Exhaust Manifold

Alan, here's another pic, one of these may also have an 18RG engine...the important thing is front engine, RWD, not like the 1985 onwards Celica(as Steve says...thanks Steve for the help)

Also here's a pic of the manifold, ignore the weld in the middle, casting number 17141 - 88211, and a pic of the flange....hope I'm not overloading the site with all these poics

No luck at local breakers I'm afraid. You may wish to have a look at this American site - toyheadauto.com. as they seem to have replacement headers that look to be similair to yours. Hope that helps

Alan, you're a Gentleman sir, thank you for trying.

Latest is that I am waiting a call back from a Toyota Enthusiasts Club member who thinks he has the correct part and also on our way to Devon Monday I'm going to look at two other manifolds that could be "engineered to fit "

All is not (yet)lost, however Stoneleigh cannot now be in the Marlin...but I'll still see you there

Thanks to all for their inputs B Rgds DC

                              Re: Toyota Exhaust Manifold

Just home after a trip \"dahn saarff\" and now have a useable used manifold.......just have to remove the three broken studs on the downpipe flange and replace them, then build a suitable exhaust sytem....so it\'s the Auris for Stoneleigh

Sincere thanks to all for their help and advice over this difficulty Rgds DC
