  • Reinforced Boot Lid

I am making a smallish luggage carrier that will be bolted to the square section tube supporting the spare wheel. This of course transfers the weight carried to the boot lid. Has anyone tried this before and how did they strengthen the boot lid?

Alternatively I can extend its arms and land the carrier on the boot surround, can anyone tell me where to buy the rubber cushioned feet to spread the load on the boot surround?

    Many thanks Roger

    Re: Reinforced Boot Lid

Could you bolt it on in such a way that the load carrying platform part of the carrier rests on the spare tyre? This in turn could well spread the load a little.
I have been thinking making a rack on my Berli or perhaps just using the spare wheel with straps through the alloy spokes. My spare wheel carrier is bolted through the boot lid with a thick bit of ply reinforcement on the rear. A bit ugly but maybe this spreads the load a bit too.
