Roadster Steering rack

Has any body got the address for the new owners of YKC, I believe it was in Bradford. my steering rack has failed the MOT so I need advice on refurbishment or a new modified one.
Can they be refurbished by a competant engineer or are they sealed/throw away?

Marina ones can be refurbished, there are instructions for adjusting for the wear in the ball joints and re shimming the rack to take up pinion wear, in the service manual. The Marina rack was shared with some Triumph cars, so Rimmer Bros is a safe if expensive bet for a commercial refurb.

YKC does not exist and hasn\'t for a number of years.

look on ebay... i just typed \"marina rack\" and got 15 steering racks,some new,some recon.good old ebay!

Hi Mike,
As you know yours is a modified Ford Sierra steering rack, as are all later YKC cars. I do not know if it is just the arms that are shortened, but I think your best bet is to talk to Steve Himsworth to find out the extent of the work that was done to the Ford rack. I have found Steve very helpful. I will give you a call later.

Thanks for all the responses most helpful, as Danny picked up the rack is from a Ford Sierra 1985 and is shortened by reducing the length of the body itself, (and presumably its internal rack!) so not a standard item. I did wonder if there was another rack on a current car that was a similar length, maybe with different fixings (but that be overcome) that would be an acceptable replacement.

i had no idea the later roadsters had a sierra rack-shows how little i know!can they be retro fitted to marina based cars and is the rack quicker?i only ask as i\'m about to shorten my steering arms for better response,but its a real pain...

Andy: The later YKC Roadsters were Sierra donor. The chassis was designed to take all the major Sierra parts, There were no crossovers between Marina and Sierra as there were with the original Triumph/Marina hybrids.
That is unless someone has been busy adapting an old Marina Marlin chassis.

Most of the wear takes place on the inner track rod end which are adjustable[under the rubber boot] Its also possible that the \'lock nut \'if not properly secured has come loose allowing the knuckle to move more than is required in its housing. www.fordscorpio.co.uk/srackrepair may be of help.

Thanks to all that replied I can now report that it passed the MOT and the problem was that the large four slotted nut had unscrewed despite being peened over so two or three turns solved the problem
