  • My Question for Committee Meeting 3/9/11

I arrived home from work to my copy of Pitstop including the long awaited extracts from the minutes of meetings related to website development.
Also included was a message from the committee with notification of the next committee meeting 3rd September one day away.
Having read the minutes my understanding is that we started out with a team of Sue and Bob investigating a new website with lots of opposition from some committee members.
A ring fence amount of £4000 was eventually agreed.
Next there was a proposal for alterative website for £1500.
The resignation of Sue and Bob followed with all their expertise ignored.
The website project was taken over by our chairman whose web tech knowledge is limited.
To be told that the project will probably only cost £4000.
To me it seems that we lost good editor and web people in Sue and Bob but still endured the expense that the original argument was about.

My question to be raised at committee meeting 3rd September 2011 is:-
Which committee members are going to stand at the next AGM.

The answer to the above will enable me to decide whether to renew my membership as my faith in the ability of the current committee to move us forward is “0”

Re: My Question for Committee Meeting 3/9/11

Martin, I have no axe to grind as I am an ordinary member like yourself.
Please renew your membership as committee stuff is not the whole of the club. Just look at the LEJOG relay. Put together by a non-committee member assisted by other ordinary members.
Local meetings are the powerhouse of everyday Marlin motoring.
The club is us,not some administrative bureau. Why not stay a member and put yourself forward as a committee member if you wish.
There has obviously been some reallignment of personalities, power struggles, frustration and obfuscation within the committee. we seem to be bystanders in all this. grass roots will keep the club going as, after all, it is soleley a car club for those of us who beaver away at our hobby of alternative and individualistic motoring. I'm probably sounding a ittle anarchic but it is up to us to keep our club going, not a procedure ridden autocracy.

Re: My Question for Committee Meeting 3/9/11

      To answer the first thread
1] At no time was there a proposal for a website costing £1500 - This was the figure that Cameron Furnival felt could be achieved if the project put out to competative tender in the market place.

2] Bob and then Sue resigned agreed, but to say their expertise has been ignored is not correct - the job is proceeding utilising the work that they put together with Cameron Furnival overseeing Cyberpharms work. I am now supported by a member who knows the business.

3] MOC has lost a good editor in Sue and I totally tried to support Sue, but remember it was her decision to resign as it was Bobs.

4] There has never been any real arguement over the cost of the website. The point of contention was the method of procurement. but when put to the vote it was a majority decision to proceed and that was put to the Agm in May 2011.

5] How can I answer your question regarding my colleagues feelings towards their standing for re election in 6 months time ? We are presently trying to get on with running the Club, Elections will be held in accordance with the Constitution .

6] With regard to your final paragraph I say to you "Give us a chance " to sort this out and then come to the AGM and cast your vote as you see fit at the time or put yourself forward to join The Committee.

      Regards
      Lee

Re: My Question for Committee Meeting 3/9/11

If it was never about the money then it seem that it can only be a clash of personalities.
I find it even more difficult to understand how a committee working on our behalf could not overcome their differences with Sue and Bob and move with them.
It would be nice to hear Sues side but as she has been told to cool it in no uncertain terms by the committee so we shall never know.
I may be old and senile and lost my faculties but that’s the way I see it.

        Regards
        Martin
