Fuel tank sender/pickup Berlinetta

I have a smith fuel dial which is 12v but the tank sender/pickup is from a cortina we think mk 5 which is 5 or 10v. Therefore nothing is compatible to give a reading.
How have members got round this one please?

Yes, I have a similar situation, Triumph gauges and an Escort fuel tank. In my case I had a very high reading and so I incorporated an in series 65 ohm resistor in the circuit. If you d o this and the reading is too low just reduce the resistor value until you get the require reading. I also had the same problem with the water temperature - same solution.
