I need to move my build so I need wheels!

What size can I fit? I recollect that one of Marlin's demonstrators had 17" x 7.5" wheels with 225/45 tyres. I think I have read somewhere that the offset should be ET35.

Could I fit 8" or 8.5" wheels instead of 7.5"? Can you fit 8.5" at the back and 7.5" at the front?

    Suggestions and information gratefully recieved.

Mine are 16 inch wheels that appear to be 8 inches across the widest part of the rim - fitted with 225/50 tyres (ebays finest) I have absolutely no idea about the offset - I can't find it labelled on the wheel anywhere. Alegedly the wheels came off a Z3... I asked Terry and Mark about them before I bought them and theoretically the marlin only takes 205 tyres but there are wider arches now so it's not an issue. My front wings fit over the top OK, haven't tried the actual positioning yet. Haven't looked at the rear wings yet either...

      Andy

Thanks for the reply. As a way of working out a maximum possible width for the rear tyres would you measure the width of your rear wheel arch mouldings for me?

I have my eye on a set of original Z3 M-Coupe wheels on e-bay (at least these will fit over the brakes) but the rear wheels are (I think) 8.5" wide.

      Many thanks

        This is a good discussion.
I haven't bought the rims yet, but since the frame setup with the A-arms for BMW is different then for the Ford based one while the GRP is (i guess) the same, I'm curious. I measured the distance at the backside from flange to flange (where I have to mount the 5 bolt-rims too) => it's 152.5 cm
The frame width at location of damper(top) is 115.5 cm

What is it at the BMW so the discussion is the same for BMW as for Ford-based?

I have test fitting the 205/50/R16's that were on my donor E30 and its very very close. I would suspect spacer would be needed to fit anything wider.

I am currenly looking at the option of using 4 stud to 5 converters which also act as spacers. It depends if I find a set of wheels I like that are 4 stud.

Jeremy, did you get anywhere with the ZM3 wheels?

I ended up getting 4 to 5 stud converts off eBay so I can fit E36/E46 wheels. I'm going to use a set of 15" standard alloys to start with (205/65/R15).

            Thanks,
