  • Cabrio Heater Blower

    Hi folks
I need to replace the faulty Heater Blower Motor on my Cabrio
Anyone know of a source/have one they are willing to sell on?
There are 2 on ebay but look slightly different, mine has a 3speed resistor clipped to the top.
I have attached a couple of pics if anyone can advise of model year?
    Regards
    Bryan

from memory looks like mine too, from 1986 Sierra. They are probably very similar.....

From memory it looks like the one that was fitted on my old 1987 2.0GL Sierra. That certainly had the three terminal resistor mounted in the middle. Peter.

Picked up one from breakers today!
Can anyone advise the correct wiring layout for a 3 speed set up
          regards

I can't remember exactly. I didn't use the Sierra control but one from a Escort, but the principle should be the same.
Each terminal will give you a different speed setting, so the easiest way to work out what needs to be connected up is to connect the body of the heater to a battery -ve terminal and connect each of the 3 terminals to +ve to see which speed setting is which.

You then need to determine which of the 3 wires from the fan speed switch is which. You can either do that using a meter and going through the switch settings. If you haven't a meter of you could improvise using a 12v light bulb to show you which wire relates to whcih setting.

Hi Bryan. There are two wire wound resistors in the unit, one with thick wire and one with thin wire, both have a common terminal (the feed from the battery). The switch needs to select either the thin wire (slow) or the thick wire (medium speed) or the common battery feed terminal ( i.e. no resistor in circuit = fast speed). Hope this helps as it should enable you to choose a suitable switch. I can't remember if this was switched through any relays on the Sierra so check the switch has a high enough rating if you wire it directly in the circuit. Peter.

The switch also needs a fourth "open contact position for "off". Peter.

                  Hi Keith
Thanks for the diagram but it does not tally with what I have as does'nt anything in the Haynes manual!
                  Peter
I think I have worked out what I need including the relay.
My problem is if I put a feed to any of the resistor connections nothing happens but a direct feed to blower works,so the motor is ok
The resistor looks perfect so I guess I am missing something!
Still untill I can get my head around it at least I have a single speed blower which is an improvement over no blower at all!
                  Thanks for all your help
                  Regards
