Ford Pinto Camshaft - Free

Used camshaft from my Ford Sierra 2.0GL (Pinto). Had done approx 70k miles and was replaced unnecessarily. Cam lobes and bearings appear unworn. Just shiny next to blackadised original surface. Cam followers are identified 1 – 8 so they can go back matched to camshaft lobes.

Free to a good home! If any use to anyone please let me know or drop me a PM, otherwise it will go in the scrap bin! Can bring it to Westpoint Kit Car show next weekend. Peter.

Oops! Yes Liz you are correct, Westpoint is the weekend after! I plan to be there on Sunday 28th Oct.

The only info that I have is on the box of the aftermarket camshaft that I fitted to my Sierra, as I put this my Ford one in it to keep the followers in the correct order.

On that box it says FFL2000 OHC Capri, Granada, Scorpio, Sierra models Sept 1983 onwards.

Unless the age of your 2.0 litre Cortina engine fits in the above age bracket I suspect that it may not be suitable. Does anyone else on the forum (Danny perhaps) have any more specific info?

BTW it is quite a heavy lump so I guess the postage would be similarly heavy. Do you know any other MOC members in your area that may be coming to Westpoint who could bring it back for you? There are some (non MOC) people on the Madabout forum coming if you know any of them?

Cortina is a 1985 reg on 1989 (I believe same as Capri). You state 1983 ?. do you mean 1993/ 0r 83 ?.
I do not kno of any club members near me on East Sussex coast, so if you think may fit let me know on postage costs and I`ll re`emburse.

Definitely 1983 on the label. My Sierra was a 1987 model (E Reg).

It would be good to be sure that it will fit first. Apart from valve timing angles the camshaft bearings will have to be exactly right match. I will check if my old Haynes manual gives any such data.

Meantime maybe you can make a separate post query in the Berli forum section as people may not look at the classifieds very often? Peter.

I have extracted the following info from my old Haynes manual:

FORD 2.0L PINTO - VALVE DATA FROM HAYNES MANUAL
Bearing journal diameter	Front	41.987 to 42.013mm
	Centre	44.607 to 44.633mm
	Rear	44.987 to 45.013mm
Valve Timing		All except engine code NAE	Engine code NAE
	Inlet opens	24 deg BTDC	18 deg BTDC
	Inlet closes	64 deg ABDC	58 deg ABDC
	Exhaust opens	70 deg BBDC	70 deg BBDC
	Exhaust closes	18 deg ATDC	6 deg ATDC

Code NAE seems to refer to the P100 vehicle application. See Wikipedia link:

Basicly we are in tune with spec data.
Can you confirm why it was replaced apart from 70,000 mies.
Also if you are in acceptance, Ebay postage on simular units are roughly £10.
So how do we proceed ?.
