Re: Interesting link-kitcars are nothing new.
Brilliant bit of archive! Even a "Tardis" Police box at the road junction, not to mention the proper garage that could fix cars and real petrol pumps. I guess fuel cost about 17d / gallon in 1934. That's about 7p in today's currency? Wages were equally small though. Peter.Last edited by greyV8pete; 03-11-12, 11:58 PM.

Re: Interesting link-kitcars are nothing new.
The Sammio grew out of a 1958 Nickri Spyder shell bought from flebay a few years back and the GRP shell on the News Reel looks very similar to it !
AH bring back the side valve and a bit of Castrol R !Ben Caswell probably not the last word on anything here!!

Amen to that.
My first Build:
Austin on side.jpg
A rather poor pic of my first Austin Seven the same day as I bought it complete and running delivered to me for £7 - 10 shillings! Built in 1936, that photo would have been about 1961 or 62 I think.
It had the much acclaimed Bowden cable front brake conversion, it still took about half a mile to stop though...Last edited by Robert in Cumbria; 05-11-12, 08:50 AM.

Re: Interesting link-kitcars are nothing new.
correct me if Im wrong - the sammio is a big plastic car bodyshell which fits onto a small ancient (not very good) chassis and the thing is made to fit by bodging in plywood which is then 'bonded' by convering in grp? And it doesnt need IVA whereas my car is a good chassis with proven handling and steel/grp bodywork (which nearly fits ) and I DO need IVA!!!
