Cleanning wire wheels

Hi.
Any idea`s on how to clean 1980`s Magnol wire basket wheels spokes after rust and corrosion had 20+ yrs attack ?.

Take them to a place that re-chromes as they will acid dip them to clean them prior to chroming, If badly pitted the acid could eat through the spokes after the rust has been removed, but also very expensive to get done.

I am doing mine the hard way with a wire brush on an electric drill for the majority then finishing the fiddly bits with a dremel.
its a long boring job but the results are good.
I had the ones on my Spitfire bead blasted and powder coated they looked fabulous. (I had money in those days)
