  • Inner Wings, Which Colour?

I can't decide, whether to paint the front inner wings dark or light green, what do you think?

I was going to paint them light green but now I am not sure...

Thank you Bryan, the inner wings will of course be quite visible from front angles.

Perhaps I should have made it a poll?

Thanks for the responses guys, keep them coming... I want to paint them this evening after dinner.

Keen to see it finished too! LOL While I am loving doing the job I am very keen to see it on the road, then I can relax a bit.

              Hi Robert

Yep I would go with the light green to.

Just an aside, are you rubbing down between coats?

                Re: Inner Wings, Which Colour?

Looks like light green up to now.

Between coats? I'm only applying one good coat!!!

There is a bit of dust when viewed close up but it looks OK for now. The bonnet could do with another coat, it was badly beaten up, and it shows. I might give it one but it's so cold now that may be a summer job, if we get a really nice day I might treat it... I am painting the body panels in the house so there is quite a bit of dust about from the dust sheets I have put down. Better that than risk paint on the carpet.

Now thats even more impressive, that type of shine with only one coat.

Many thanks for the infomation Robert.

                  Keep up the good work.

Hi Robert, I'm in the light green camp too, if its between the to greens, but maybe yellow would go well with the nose cone.

What I do is put a good coat on then leave it 20 or 30 minutes then put a bit more on where it's a bit thin. That really brings the shine up, it orange peels at first but that seems to disappear overnight, It's not going to give you a cellulose paint job but for what I want, presentable, functional, robust and easy to touch up when scraped or damaged. It's never going to beat a proper spray job but it's exactly what I want.

It can be obtained in a very wide range of mixed to order colours, not just the 'off the shelf' range. At the very least the entire RAL range is available.

I was going to do the wings yellow but I felt it was too extreme. A compromise was two shades of green, since green is thought by some to be unlucky, I took a leaf out of BRM's book and made the nose cone yellow.

My first Rally mini was Ford aquatic jade with a yellow roof, you may remember. First run on the KLMC January rally 1978. Started from Burton services.

I fancy yellow. Then we can see you coming up Bamford Clough next year?

Deed done, light green it is.

Will be very happy when I have finished painting and I can have the front room back to some sort of normality.
