Hi Robert

Yes it is the end of the Torsion Bar. The hole is to allow the Torsion Bar to come through into the cockpit.

OK, got it and found a pic which covers it taken of mine when it was on the crane.

I think if you are concerned about water ingress then a little silicone and a thin cap would seal it well.

Mine was exactly like that shown with the torsion bar protruding. As i see it the end of the torsion bar needs a positive location in order to work hence the locating hole.never had any water ingress issues in the 12 years of ownership.
